Challenge
A 60 MVA transformer weighing 86 tonnes had to reach the East Kutai substation before commissioning. Any delay would push back the whole energisation schedule.
The road from the jetty to the site crossed several bridges with load limits far below the cargo weight.
- 86 tonnes grossNeeded a 12-axle trailer and a barge.
- Load-limited bridgesTwo bridges were missing from the project map.
- Road permitsDispensation permits and escorts were needed from several agencies.

Solution
-
1
Route survey
The team drove the route from jetty to site, measuring bridges, bends and overhead cables.
-
2
Temporary bridge reinforcement
Two bridges were reinforced with steel beams to an engineer's calculation.
-
3
Barge and multi-axle trailer
The transformer was loaded onto a barge in Cilegon, then transferred to a 12-axle trailer at the jetty.
-
4
Escort and placement
The convoy was escorted to site and the transformer jacked onto its foundation.

“The survey team found two bridges that were not on our project map. Without that, our transformer would have been stuck halfway.”
